Assam Tea Buying Guide
Assam tea is one of the finest teas in the world. It is known for its rich flavor, strong aroma, and a tinge of malty taste. This tea is grown in the Assam region of India, which is blessed with a tropical climate and a fertile soil that helps in producing high-quality tea leaves. With so many varieties of Assam tea available in the market, it can be tough to decide which one to buy. In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know to choose the best Assam tea.
Types of Assam Tea
Assam tea is available in various forms such as loose leaf tea, tea bags, and tea powder. The most popular types of Assam tea are:
Black Tea
Black Assam tea is the most commonly consumed type of tea. It has a strong, malty flavor and a dark, rich color. Black Assam tea is known for its energizing and refreshing properties.
Green Tea
Green Assam tea is a healthy alternative to black Assam tea. It is less processed than black tea, and hence retains a higher level of antioxidants. Green Assam tea has a fresh, earthy taste, and a milder aroma than black Assam tea.
White Tea
White Assam tea is the rarest and most expensive type of tea. It is made from the youngest and most delicate tea leaves, and hence, has a subtle, delicate flavor. White Assam tea is rich in antioxidants and has a sweet, fruity taste.
Factors to Consider while Buying Assam Tea
Choosing the right Assam tea can be a daunting task. Here are some of the factors that you should consider while buying Assam tea:
Quality
The quality of Assam tea depends on the processing, harvesting, and storing of tea leaves. The best Assam tea is made from tea leaves that are plucked from young and tender tea plants. The tea should be carefully processed to preserve the natural flavor and aroma of the tea leaves. The tea leaves should also be stored in a dry, cool place to prevent them from losing their flavor.
Grade
The grade of Assam tea is determined by the size and texture of the tea leaves. The best Assam tea is made from whole tea leaves that are unbroken and have a consistent texture. The highest grade of Assam tea is called "Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe" (TGFOP).
Flavor
The flavor of Assam tea can vary depending on the type and processing of the tea leaves. Black Assam tea has a strong, malty flavor, while green Assam tea has a milder, earthy taste. White Assam tea has a delicate, fruity flavor. Choose the flavor that suits your taste buds.
Aroma
The aroma of Assam tea is an important factor to consider. The tea should have a strong, pleasant aroma that will make your tea-drinking experience more enjoyable.
Caffeine Content
Assam tea is known for its high caffeine content. If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may want to choose a green or white Assam tea, which has a lower caffeine content than black Assam tea.
Price
The price of Assam tea can vary depending on the quality, grade, and type of tea. White Assam tea is the most expensive, while black Assam tea is the most affordable. Choose a tea that fits your budget and gives you the best value.
Where to Buy Assam Tea
