Kaws Figure Buying Guide
Kaws is a renowned American artist, designer, and toy collector whose works have gained a massive following in the global art community. Kaws figures are some of the most sought-after collectibles, both for art enthusiasts and toy collectors alike. If you are interested in purchasing a Kaws figure, this guide will provide you with all the necessary information to make an informed buying decision.
How to Identify Authentic Kaws Figures
Due to their popularity, Kaws figures are often counterfeited by unscrupulous retailers seeking to make a quick profit. If you want to ensure that you purchase a genuine Kaws figure, there are several things to look out for:
- The real Kaws figures have a unique serial number and artist signature on the base of the toy. Be sure to check that the signature matches the artist's distinctive style.
- The lens of the figure's eyes should be solid black, with no seams or breaks visible.
- The box should be sturdy and well-constructed with the Kaws logo and design on the exterior.
- Check the seller's reputation and review the product images carefully. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Types of Kaws Figures
Kaws figures come in several sizes and designs to suit varying collector preferences. The most popular Kaws figure designs include:
- Kaws BFF figures: These are the most popular Kaws figures, featuring a character with an X over his face holding hands with a smaller character. The smaller figure is called the companion, and the design emphasizes the theme of companionship between two different characters.
- Kaws Clean Slate figures: These figures feature a character with a blank face, symbolizing the idea of starting fresh or wiping the slate clean.
- Kaws Companion figures: These figures feature a character with crossed-out eyes and cartoon-like features. They are available in several colors, designs, and sizes.
- Kaws Dissected figures: These figures feature a dissected body, revealing the inner anatomy of the character. They are popular among art collectors and enthusiasts interested in the human form.
Where to Purchase Kaws Figures
Kaws figures are available from several retailers, both online and in physical storefronts. Some of the most reputable sources of Kaws figures include:
- Kawsone: This is the official website of Kaws, and it features limited edition figures and merchandise from the artist. The website also lists authorized Kaws dealers from around the world.
- StockX: This is an online marketplace that specializes in limited edition and hard-to-find merchandise. They authenticate all products before shipping them to buyers, ensuring that you get the genuine article.
- The RealReal: This is an online luxury consignment store that features authenticated, pre-owned designer clothing, accessories, and collectibles, including Kaws figures.
- Amazon: Though it may seem counterintuitive, Amazon is a reputable source of Kaws figures from authorized dealers. Just be sure to read the reviews carefully and check that the seller is reputable.
Kaws Figure Pricing
The price of Kaws figures varies depending on several factors, including the design, size, and rarity of the figure. Generally speaking, the larger and rarer the figure, the more expensive it will be. For example, a limited edition Kaws BFF figure can sell for over $2,000, while a standard issue Kaws Companion figure can typically be purchased for around $200-$300.
It is important to note that Kaws figures are highly sought after, and their value can appreciate over time. If you are purchasing a Kaws figure as an investment piece, it is essential to do your research and ensure that you are buying a genuine article from a reputable source.
