Warhammer 40K Buying Guide
Introduction
If you are new to Warhammer 40K or are simply looking to expand your collection, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when making your purchases. In this buying guide, we will cover some important considerations that will help you make the best decisions for your army and your wallet.
Considerations
Army
The first consideration to keep in mind is your army. What kind of army do you want to build? Do you want to create a balanced force or focus on a particular style of play? Knowing the answer to these questions will help you determine what units and models you should purchase.
Budget
Another important consideration is your budget. Warhammer 40K can be an expensive hobby, so it is important to set a budget and stick to it. You do not need to buy everything at once - focus on getting the basics first and then slowly build your army over time.
Gameplay
Think about how you plan to play the game. Will you be playing casually with friends or participating in tournaments? This will help you determine the best units and models to buy for your army.
Faction
Your faction is also an important consideration when buying units and models. Each faction has its own playstyle and strengths, so make sure to choose one that fits your personal playstyle.
Quality
When buying models and units, it is important to consider their quality. High-quality models will last longer and look better on the table. While they may be more expensive, it is a worthwhile investment in the long run.
What to Buy
Now that we have gone over some important considerations, let's take a look at what you should buy for your Warhammer 40K army.
Start Collecting Box Sets
If you are just starting out, we recommend purchasing a start collecting box set. These sets typically include a variety of units and models that are perfect for building a new army. They are also a great value, as they are significantly cheaper than buying each unit individually.
Some popular start collecting box sets include:
- Space Marines
- Tau Empire
- Death Guard
- Orks
- Imperial Guard
- Eldar
Core Rulebook
The core rulebook is an essential purchase for anyone interested in playing Warhammer 40K. It contains all of the rules and information needed to play the game, including how to build armies, movement, shooting, and more. It is also a great source of inspiration for building and painting your models.
Hobby Supplies
In addition to models and units, you will also need some hobby supplies to properly build and paint your army. Some essential hobby supplies include:
- Hobby knife
- Sprue cutter
- Glue
- Paints
- Brushes
- Primer
You may also want to invest in some specialized tools, such as an airbrush or weathering powders, depending on your personal preference.
Building Your Army
Once you have the basics covered, it is time to start building your army. Here are some units and models that we recommend:
HQ Units
HQ units are essential for any army, as they provide leadership and support to your troops. Some popular HQ units include:
- Space Marine Captain
- Ethereal
- Ork Warboss
- Tyranid Hive Tyrant
Troops
Troops are the backbone of any army and are essential for holding objectives and achieving victory. Some popular troop units include:
- Space Marine Tactical Squad
- Fire Warriors
- Plague Marines
- Ork Boyz
Elites
Elites are powerful units that are great for taking on tough enemies. Some popular elite units include:
- Terminators
- Crisis Suits
- Wraithguard
- Deathwing Knights
Fast Attack
Fast attack units are excellent for quickly moving around the battlefield and taking out enemy units. Some popular fast attack units include:
- Bikes
- Piranhas
- Raveners
- Warbikers
Heavy Support
Heavy support units are great for taking out enemy vehicles and fortifications. Some popular heavy support units include:
- Lascannons
- Broadside Battlesuits
- Plasma Cannons
- Killa Kans
Conclusion
Warhammer 40K is an exciting and challenging hobby that requires careful consideration when making purchases for your army. By following this buying guide and focusing on your army, budget, gameplay, faction, and quality, you can build a strong and successful army that will take on all challengers. Good luck and have fun!
