Action Man Buying Guide
Remember playing with action figures as a child? For many, it was a beloved pastime. Today’s children are no different and the Action Man action figure is a popular choice. But with so many different types of Action Men available, it can be difficult to determine which one to buy. Fortunately, this Action Man buying guide will give you the details you need to choose the right figure for your child.
What is an Action Man?
Action Man was first introduced in 1966 as the British version of the American toy, G.I. Joe. The toys were initially created to help children learn about military history and inspire adventure. Since then, the franchise has expanded to include a wide variety of figures, vehicles, and accessories.
The Action Man figure typically has a muscular physique with movable joints and comes dressed in a military uniform or other adventure gear. They range in height from around 9 to 12 inches, depending on the model.
Choosing the Right Action Man
When choosing an Action Man figure, there are a few things to consider:
Age Range
Age range is an essential consideration when shopping for a child’s toy. Some models of Action Man are designed for children aged five and up, while others are better suited for older children or collectors. Ensure that you check the recommended age range before purchasing.
Interests
Action Man figures come in a variety of themes, including military, adventure, and superhero. Consider what type of interests your child has when selecting a figure. For example, if your child enjoys space exploration, then a figure like the Space Commando might be an excellent choice.
Accessories
Action Man figures come with a variety of accessories, which can include weapons, tools, and vehicles. Consider what accessories would complement your child’s interests or enhance their playtime activities.
Mechanical Features
If the action figure has mechanical functions, make sure that they are appropriate for your child's age range. Some figures have movable arms and legs, while others have more advanced mechanical features such as sound effects or light-up features.
Types of Action Men
There are many different types of Action Men available on the market.
Standard Action Men
The standard Action Man is the original design that was introduced in the 1960s, and it remains a popular choice among collectors. These figures are typically dressed in military uniforms and come with a wide range of accessories that reflect the era they were made.
Adventure Action Men
Adventure Action Men figures are designed to inspire exploration and adventure. They are often dressed in khakis or other adventure gear and come with plenty of accessories like camping gear or maps. These figures are great for children who love the great outdoors or are interested in geography.
Sports Action Men
Sports Action Men figures are designed to celebrate different types of sports. The figures come with appropriate outfits such as hockey uniforms, soccer jerseys, or basketball shorts. Accessories include sports equipment like hockey sticks or basketballs. These figures can encourage children to enjoy and learn about sports while playing with their favorite toy.
Superhero Action Men
Superhero Action Men figures are designed to resemble popular superheroes. For example, the Action Man Superman figure would be an excellent choice for children who are fans of that comic book character. These figures come with a range of specialized accessories, such as familiar weapons, gadgets, and vehicles.
Military Action Men
Military Action Men figures were the first type of Action Men created, and they remain an ever-popular choice. Action Men soldiers are dressed in military gear from various eras, ranging from medieval to modern-day. These figures come with a range of accessories and are perfect for children who are interested in military history or enjoy playing with toy soldiers.
Movie Action Men
Movie Action Men figures are designed to resemble characters from popular movies. These figures are typically released to promote the film, and many characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Iron Man, Captain America and Thor also have their versions of Action Men figures. These figures make great gifts for any child who enjoys comic books or superhero movies.
Conclusion
When looking for the perfect Action Man for your child, consider their interests, age and the accessories that come with the figure. Whether they love sports, superheroes, the military, or adventure, there is sure to be an Action Man figure that is perfect for them. Keep in mind that action figures also make great collectibles, so you may also want to consider starting a collection of your own.
Remember, when choosing an action figure, safety should always be a priority. Be sure to check the recommended age range, as well as any mechanical functions, to ensure that your child has a safe and engaging experience while playing. Now that you know what to look for and which types of Action Men are available, it’s time to start shopping!
